About Reimagine Transit:

Suffolk County Mobility

Goals of the Initiative

Reimagine Transit is an initiative that builds on the Connect LI regional transportation and development plan to redesign Suffolk County’s fixed-route bus network and on-demand mobility services, and likely identify opportunities for the use of new mobility tools, like on-demand transit services. This initiative is a chance to rethink the entire network of routes and ensure that the County is making the best use of its resources and aligning its transit investments with community goals and priorities.

The Reimagine Transit initiative is led by the Suffolk County Economic Development and Planning Department, in partnership with the Department of Public Works, supported by a consultant team led by Jarrett Walker + Associates that includes Public Works Partners LLC and Creighton Manning.

Previous initiatives

Reimagine Transit is a follow-up initiative to the Suffolk County Mobility Study, which evaluated the County’s transit challenges, including declining ridership, escalating operating costs, and a lack of diverse transit options, and ultimately identified the following opportunity areas for the County:

  • Evaluate and reimagine the transportation network
  • Offer better and efficient mobility services to more people
  • Develop a resilient system aligned with evolving technologies and needs
